Further to my useless suggestion on usenet...

On my desktop machine, I have a 3840×1080 screen spread
over two monitors. Even the larger screen memory available
on the Arm7500 model doesn't allow 16M colours. I settled
for 32K colours moons ago and, to be quite honest, I can't
tell the difference unless I click on Display on the icon
bar.

Unless Fay really does *need* 16M colours, I'd go with 32K.
Now, here's a thought; set it up in 32K, don't tell her and
see what fireworks result.
