Unless it's changed recently the protection code is generated from the host
device's network card/interface. (In the early days I'd bought a laptop from
R-Comp which had wifi. It was wired to my network so I turned wifi off, but
this stopped VRPC running. After some gentle persuasion Aaron sent me a new
code attached to the network card.)

So, with this in mind, you should be able to re-install from your disk. Of
course, ensure you have your VRPC HDDs & the config file containing the
unlock code somewhere safe first.

It doesn't seem to matter that the version isn't exactly the same either. A
year or so back, I bought another copy to install on my laptop for when I was
away. To save me money Aaron suggested the cheapest, but I decided I'd buy
the same vesion (ie most expensive) I have on my desktop. Less chance of
issues that way &, I hope, helps to keep this essential product available.

They're too busy worrying over what you are thinking about them.
