It should only be taking time if it is either uploading or downloading
changes to the files in the cloud folders. I normally run DropBox, and it
does not seem to slow my machine down - unless it is uploading or
downloading one or more files.

I do know someone who moved *lots* of big documents into their DropBox
folder ... and wondered why everything went slowly for many many hours
(even days).  And why BT kept demanding more money for a higher GB limit!

As with everything, use with care.
