Many thanks, but VRPC seems to be a lot more responsive since I 
increased the processor priority (see upthread).

I do have CallWin32.dat and CallWin32.dll in the plugins folder of 
VirtualRPC-SE of VirtualAcorn (can't remember why!), but no trace of 
it, or any duplicated entries in the RISC OS Task Manager. However, 
that's all rather above my head!
