All this unfounded pejorative stuff flying around... 

Obviously I don't use every possible app available on Sourceforge, but
I've been downloading/updating and using a number of Sourceforge held apps
for years without any nasties arriving with them.

There is a very simple solution to this sort of worry.
If I am at all concerned about any new download, after it has downloaded
and is residing untouched in the download directory, I point my
Antivirus/Malware/Whatever app at it, and get it/them to scan the thing.

I've only had one instance of the AV app not liking what it had scanned,
so it was immediately excised from existence.

With regard to your direct VA problem... Well I don't really know the
answer to that one, but suffice to say, with it sitting on top of Windows,
aside from the one I've already mentioned 'Video Pad', there are instances
where something happening on the Win side makes the VRPC get uppity.

It's just one of those things, and if it freezes and won't Exit in the
usual set if options...

As a last resort you can Ctrl-Alt-Delete for the Task manager and kill the
VRPC from there.
