It's running Windows 10. I have Virtual Acorn on a drive partition (F) separate from the C drive. I want to increase the size of partition F but need some more room. Some stuff is now to be added. The author, now in his mid-80s, chooses to have no internet connection himself. I occasionally give him an up-to-date copy of the site so that he can view it locally on his Windows XP machine. As browser he uses Firefox and might also have Chrome (oldish versions, unless somebody else has updated him). Having learned some PHP, I'd like to use some simple PHP calls in the additions to his site. Here on RiscOS, I use Webjames as development server to test pages (of other sites) with PHP before I upload them to the ISP (Spellings). The version of PHP that comes with Webjames is 5.2 -- quite old, but I'm doing nothing cutting-edge, and the ISP's newer PHP handles it without complaint. My question: Will my customer's existing setup be able to deal with PHP? Or will I need to install some sort of "development server" on his XP box? And if so, can anybody please recommend one? (Preferably something with small footprint and as straightforward as Webjames.) Thanks. I recently had the need to migrate a MediaWiki installation from an old version only running on PHP5 because my hoster will cease PHP5 support in the near future to PHP7, also involving a MySQL upgrade for added fun. After failing on Linux, I used UniformServer on Windows which is a complete Apache-PHP-MySQL package (also known as the WAMP stack - Windows, Apache, MySQL, PHP). which runs without installation and without needing admin rights. https://sourceforge.net/projects/miniserver/ Not sure if it still runs on XP though. I'm not saying this is the answer, but... VRPC versions have a predilection for corrupting the cmos.ram file (Also inside the Version (jit) dir). I usually keep a couple of good copies in there ready for the regular FU that happens. And funnily enough, it happened again this evening, replaced the corrupted cmos.ram with a good copy and my VRPC-DL worked again. Witness I'm using the VRPC to write this... One last thought... Try putting the full file path in the "mount0 = line. mount0 = "HardDisc4 'C:\Fullpath to\HardDisc4' bootopt=2,showext" ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ After that, I'm out of ideas... Each will have its own Model.cfg which /may/ refer to your required HD4, but most likely won't if you've not used the other two. > mount0 = "HardDisc4 'HardDisc4' bootopt=2,showext" This, I believe, refers to the default HD4 that resides in the same dir' as the Model.cfg file, which is why it doesn't have a full path... > and that had been working so presumably something else changed. ...so if yours is elsewhere it won't work. As Dave S. has said, you need to ensure the HD4 in Model.cfg is pointing to the full path of that file. The quickest way to correct this is to run VRPC, which will fail, of course, with that error. However, it should have opened the VRPC window. So click on Tools->Options from the menu bar Select the Hostfs tab Click on HardDisk4 and use the browse button near the bottom to find your HD4 in the standard Windows filer. I think you need to click Add once the full path is showing to save it. Ah! So there's at least two of us. Solidarity brother! I moved my VA from the C drive to a partition ages ago everything worked flawlessly, even Sibelius. The only problem was I was running out of space. That was my own fault as Transient was set to save everything for ever & anyway it would be simple to extend the partition. After the various warnings (see upthread) I decided to put it back on the C drive & it worked for a while but has now gone pear shaped. As Dave S. has said, you need to ensure the HD4 in Model.cfg is pointing to the full path of that file. I'm not saying this is the answer, but... VRPC versions have a predilection for corrupting the cmos.ram file (Also inside the Version (jit) dir). I usually keep a couple of good copies in there ready for the regular FU that happens. And funnily enough, it happened again this evening, replaced the corrupted cmos.ram with a good copy and my VRPC-DL worked again. Witness I'm using the VRPC to write this... One last thought... As Dave S. has said, you need to ensure the HD4 in Model.cfg is pointing to the full path of that file. Thanks, Mike. That pinpointed the fault. The path was still pointing to the old location. I changed that to the new location & did OK but the Tools window will not close & I can't get out of it. None of the icons / tabs at the top work. The only way I can get out of it is to use Ctrl/Alt/Delete but then the new configuration isn't saved. The version of PHP that comes with Webjames is 5.2 -- quite old, but I'm doing nothing cutting-edge, and the ISP's newer PHP handles it without complaint. I'm not saying this is the answer, but... VRPC versions have a predilection for corrupting the cmos.ram file (Also inside the Version (jit) dir). As Dave S. has said, you need to ensure the HD4 in Model.cfg is pointing to the full path of that file. Thanks, Mike. That pinpointed the fault. The path was still pointing to the old location. I changed that to the new location & did OK but the Tools window will not close & I can't get out of it. As Dave S. has said, you need to ensure the HD4 in Model.cfg is pointing to the full path of that file. Tried both of those. No joy. I've just put one of my backups back & that works but it's a bit out of date. It seemingly was done by Rcomp when they had the machine back for something. I'm now loading my other one back. I had been using VA on a separate partition but the guys at TOMS pointed out that this was not a good idea as stressed by Aaron (see http://www.virtualacorn.co.uk/support/vrpcinuse/index.htm or p 29 of the latest supplement. I'd put VA back on the C drive & all was working correctly until this trojan came along & I had to do all the cleaning up. -- Chris From cvjazz at waitrose.com Thu Feb 28 21:56:31 2019 From: cvjazz at waitrose.com (Chris Newman) Date: Thu, 28 Feb 2019 21:56:31 +0000 (GMT) Subject: [Virtualacorn-list] Incompatible host In-Reply-To: <578d98f234cvjazz@waitrose.com> References: <578d7bb70acvjazz@waitrose.com> <578d86b02adave@triffid.co.uk> <578d94e99acvjazz@waitrose.com> <578d9755d1dave@triffid.co.uk> <578d98f234cvjazz@waitrose.com> Message-ID: <578d9c3435cvjazz@waitrose.com> On 28 Feb, cvjazz at waitrose.com wrote: An update. This is getting silly. I have put both backups on to the laptop & they both work except that Sibelius on both now reports it is corrupted & I need to de-install it then re-install it. I can't do that myself methinks as Andrew at Rcomp put it on from an image disc. Spookily, the version that wouldn't boot now runs happily except it can't find the Sibelius disc but it was working when I did the transfer from F drive to C drive. I checked. Am I entering a Black Hole here????!!! I'm beginning to wish that, despite the warnings, I'd left it on the partition. At least it should have been safe from things happening to the C drive. Yes. On my Win10pro laptop I have a drive letter (but only a single disc) dedicated to 'RISC OS stuff' - eg VRPC, RPCEMU, BBC4W, BBCSDL, each in subfolders. I have had no problems with VRPC in the years since I moved it there - although I do not run Sibelius, and indeed VRPC is only generally used when I am away or for testing. Touches wood! If it's there, I can break it!! -- Chris
