But do make sure that all un-needed services are shut down and ports
closed.

A trip to  https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2  with PC and running the
scan will give an indication of your vulnerabilities.

It is quite possible to make your machine invisible on the internet, mine
are.
