This is undoubtedly the problem, but the reset recreates a default setup. If,
like me, you make extensive changes to those defaults, you should make a copy
of the cmos.ram file once you're happy with the new settings.

So if (when?) cmos.ram gets corrupted again, you won't have to make all those
changes again.

I have 'cmos-Copy.ram' in the same Folder as the 'real' cmos.ram and have to
copy it back 4 or 5 times a year. We have many powercuts here and Windows has
a habit of rebooting without warning occasionally.
