Sorry Alan, but this problem was resolved a while ago.

There was no registry involvement in the particular problem.

In this case it was specifically to do with the USB drive and formatting.

The drive was originally a backup for the Win 7 Laptop and thus had been
formatted NTFS by W7.
Later, when I re-organized my backing regime, this drive was moved to an
XP machine and there used for some backing, but that was just a case of
Reading/Writing, Archives, dirs and files.

However, later when I intended that drive as a supplementary backup for my
VRPC stuff and tried to *Run* a VRPC install from it, the problem arose.

It didn't matter what the app was, even Win native apps, Text editors,
Players, they would not run, presenting the same error message.

My conclusion was the W7 format had set some security flag that XP
couldn't do anything about (Well I couldn't).

Reformatted the drive NTFS on XP.
Dragged the VRPC to it, modified the .cfg file to point at the USB drive,
VRPC HardDisc4, and as they say, Robert was my father's brother.
Works as it should.

Absolutely no registry edits involved.

Thanks for your thoughts.
Dave
