I've had one reply off-list from Chris, suggesting we could meet in the
hotel bar and if we don't like what's on offer there, wander over the
road to the Black Castle.
I've also had a reply from Bryan saying that although he's staying in
the hotel, he'd be happy to meet elsewhere because he'll be
"touristing"[1] as usual, so he can plan his day according to where
we'll be meeting.
He also commented that he doesn't think the hotel serves food in the bar
- but I'm sure I remember seeing a perfectly reasonable menu in the bar
when I first visited the hotel.
Also, Andrew Rawnsley commented on the ROOL forum that he's heading down
a day earlier than usual, which means Thursday. I've sent him an email
inviting him to join us (no reply yet) - though it's possible he'll have
other plans (given its 14th Feb, and Steph will be with him) and/or
might not arrive in time anyway.

Just one more thing... given that 14th of February is soppy bar stewards
day, when proper soppy people give their other halves a romantic treat
including a meal in a nice restaurant (this won't affect us) but less
soppy bar stewards make the once a year effort to do *something* and
treat their other halves to a meal in the sort of place we visit. This
*will* affect us. (So if we're thinking the Black Castle, even though
booking ahead seemed pointless last time, it might be sensible this time.)
So the group needs to make some decisions.
[1] Bryan's choice of word, not mine. He commented that it really is a
word, and in my reply I expressed doubt - the spelling checker on my
phone (which I replied from) didn't like it. However, I note that the
one in Thunderbird does.
